Andrew Douglas, PhD
Andrew Douglas, PhD, has been named Faculty Fellow in the Institute for Research, Civic Engagement, and Policy. Andrew Douglas is a professor of political science and faculty affiliate in Africana Studies and international comparative labor studies. His current work is concerned with how historical transformations in global capitalism reproduce racial inequality. He is the author of three books: In the Spirit of Critique: Thinking Politically in the Dialectical Tradition (2013); W. E. B. Du Bois and the Critique of the Competitive Society (2019); and, with Jared Loggins, Prophet of Discontent: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Critique of Racial Capitalism (2021). Other writings have appeared in, among other outlets, The Du Bois Review, The C.L.R. James Journal, Constellations, Philosophy and Social Criticism, Contemporary Political Theory, The Review of Politics, Boston Review, and Political Theory. Andrew was a 2016-2017 research fellow at the Whitney Humanities Center at Yale University. He holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
