AYCGL Study Tours
The Andrew Young Center designs and implements experiential education opportunities for Morehouse students by providing educational experiences that deepen learning and enrich the intellectual life of students and faculty. During the 2023-24 academic year, two study tours were open to Morehouse College students.
EJI Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice
In November 2023, Oprah Winfrey scholars traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to visit the Equal Justice Initiative's Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. The Legacy Museum provides an immersive and powerful experience, walking visitors through the United States' extensive and tragic history of white supremacy and racial terror, including the slave trade, Jim Crow laws, and racial terrorism, including the history of lynching in the United States. Visitors explore these topics, moving through captivating exhibits which utilize art, extensive data, and interactive media.
African American History and Heritage Study Tour
On February 23 - 25, 2024, the AYCGL hosted the African American History and Heritage Study Tour in Charleston, South Carolina. Fifty-four Morehouse College scholars, including Oprah Winfrey scholars, traveled with Andrew Young Center directors Dr. Sinead Younge and Dr. Jann Adams to visit the International African American Museum, the Avery Research Center at the College of Charleston, and the McLeod Plantation.
