Maya Corneille
Dr. Maya Corneille is the Associate Director of Experiential Education and Social Impact at the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership at Morehouse College. As a Curriculum Fellow for the Institute for Social Justice Inquiry and Praxis, Dr. Corneille developed a Curriculum for Social Impact, based on a framework grounded in Morehouse Mission goals and the programmatic attributes of the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership.
Dr. Corneille has served as an Associate Professor of psychology at North Carolina A&T State University, and research faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Corneille specializes in health and education equity and has published more than 20 scientific journal articles in these areas. Her work has garnered more than five million dollars and has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Mental Health, and the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Corneille teaches courses on race, gender, healing, and social justice.
Dr. Corneille is committed to building community collaborations that strategize to dismantle structural inequalities and build upon collective strengths of the Black community. As the co-director of the Collective Health and Education Equity Research (CHEER) Collaborative, she has facilitated racial and gender equity workshops and provided consultation for leaders of social justice organizations.
Dr. Corneille is also passionate about the transformative power of writing. She has participated in various selective writing programs including Callaloo, Voices of Our Nation, and Hurston Wright. She received a Master’s degree in clinical psychology and a Ph.D. in social psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University.
