| | | 2024-25 Study Abroad Update |
| Financial barriers are the first challenge students encounter when they begin to consider studying abroad. In fall 2023, a $1 million award to the Office of International Education established the Andrew Young Fund for International Scholars (AYFIS). The scholarship funded $76,875 in student scholarships for study abroad during the 2023-2024 academic year. Students participated in study abroad experiences for as little as $500, with four fully-funded programs offered at no cost. This year, the Office of International Education has made studying abroad even more affordable. The Andrew Young Fund for International Scholars (AYFIS) is available to all residential Morehouse students and is offered at two tiers. The AYFIS allows Morehouse students with financial need (approximately 80% of the student body) to participate in a faculty-led study abroad program for $1000. Students without financial need study abroad at significantly reduced rates. |
| | Study Abroad Ambassadors Program |
| Study Abroad Ambassadors support their peers in the study abroad application process, partner with student organizations and residential assistants on programming with a cross- cultural component, and support the implementation of campus-wide events. Ambassadors also support the Office of International Education’s (OIE) campaigns to increase interest and participation in study abroad at Morehouse College. In September, three talented students who studied abroad during the 2023-24 academic year were selected as Study Abroad Ambassadors.
In September, five talented students were selected as study abroad ambassadors. The 2024-25 Study Abroad Ambassadors are Isaiah Evans, Hudson Osborne, David Pilson, Darius Martin, and Aaron Mitchell. |

| Morehouse Basketball Team Inside the US Federal Correctional Institution [FCI] in Atlanta. |
| | In early October the Morehouse College basketball team played a friendly yet competitive and very inspiring game of hoops with incarcerated players at FCI-ATL. Although the Maroon Tigers won the game, everyone who participated, including players, spectators and prison staff, were cheered by the event. Coach Whittler shared: “The guys had a great time and enjoyed the experience with brothers on the inside. They gained some needed knowledge and wisdom.” Rodney Walker, who teaches inside FCI-ATL, commented: “When Howard Thurman spoke about coming alive, I imagine he meant this moment, where both the adults in custody and men of Morehouse forgot they were in prison.” Although the core mission of the AYC-HEP Program inside the FCI-ATL is to teach humanities courses, the Program also strives to bring the co-curricular experience of the Morehouse brotherhood inside the prisons where we teach. |
