Atlanta City Council Honors Judge Winfield Murray and Morehouse HEP for Transformative Service


On October 6, 2025, the Atlanta City Council and Council Member Andrea Boone honored Judge Winfield Murray, Class of ’98, for his dedicated service as an educator and advocate for incarcerated students. Judge Murray had been a long-time champion of the Andrew Young Center–Higher Education in Prisons Program, where he served as a teacher and mentor, helping to expand educational opportunities for justice-involved individuals.

In recognition of his impactful work, Judge Murray was celebrated for his commitment to advancing access to higher education within correctional facilities. Additionally, the Morehouse Higher Education in Prisons Program was also recognized for its four years of transformative work in providing college-level courses to incarcerated students.

This special recognition highlighted the importance of education as a tool for empowerment, rehabilitation, and community advancement.
