 The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) and the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership at Morehouse College will co-host the premiere screening of Faith on the Frontline on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Morehouse College’s Bank of America Auditorium in the Shirley E. Massey Leadership Building. The free, public event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. EST, followed by the screening and a living history conversation with Ambassador Andrew Young and Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie

Atlanta City Council Honors Judge Winfield Murray and Morehouse HEP for Transformative Service

Judge Winfield W. Murray ’98 was formally honored by the Atlanta City Council for his decades of service as a federal immigration judge, Morehouse educator, and staunch advocate for prison education through the Morehouse Higher Education in Prisons Program. As coach of the Morehouse debate and moot court teams, Murray has shaped generations of student-leaders in law and advocacy.

Dr. Shari Mackinson named Assistant Director of the AYC-Higher Education in Prisons Program

The Higher Education in Prisons Program in the Andrew Young Center [AYC-HEP] at Morehouse College and the Bard Prison Initiative [BPI] are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shari Mackinson as the Morehouse-BPI Faculty Fellow and Assistant Director of the AYC-HEP. A graduate of Howard University (BS) and Emory University in Atlanta (PhD), Dr. Mackinson presently teaches in the Department of Religion at Texas Christian University. As a graduate student at Emory, Dr. Mackinson taught at Arrendale and was a student chaplain at Metro Transitional Center. Among other responsibilities, Dr. Mackinson will serve as the site supervisor at the US Federal Correctional Institution in Atlanta.

Chris Lambry on the Oprah Winfrey South Africa Leadership Program

On May 19, 2024, nine Oprah Winfrey scholars embarked on the 12-day South Africa Leadership Program! This transformative study abroad experience included visits to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Pilanesburg, and Cape Town, South Africa. The experience was highlighted by the opportunity to serve as official observers of South Africa’s presidential election, held 30 years after the election of Nelson Mandela. Scholars observed election processes at multiple sites and shared feedback with election officials. Observation of South Africa’s democratic elections became an opportunity to juxtapose this process in South Africa and the United States and generated fruitful discussions about the importance of and threats to democracy around the world.

Adults’ in Custody Generosity Shines Through: $2,605.00 Donation to Non-Profit Organization

In a gratifying display of kindness and generosity, a group of Adults in Custody at the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta, Georgia, banded together to make a significant contribution to Frontline Response, a non-profit organization that rescues men, women and children from human traffickers, sex offenders, drug dealers and homelessness. Despite their conditions, the AICs managed to donate a total of $2,605.00, exemplifying the capability and the aspiration to make a positive impact during their incarceration.

Morehouse College has received a $1.6 million federal investment in the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership’s (AYCGL) Higher Education in Prisons Program. Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05), an Atlanta Democrat and member of the Congressional Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, made the announcement Thursday, April 4, on campus during 404 Day, a celebration of all things Atlanta.
