The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) and the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership at Morehouse College will co-host the premiere screening of Faith on the Frontline on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Morehouse College’s Bank of America Auditorium in the Shirley E. Massey Leadership Building. The free, public event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. EST, followed by the screening and a living history conversation with Ambassador Andrew Young and Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie.
Oprah Winfrey scholars lead on campus and in the community, demonstrating a commitment to serve and to their development as ethical, servant leaders. Scholars’ leadership in the Morehouse and broader community exemplifies the OWSP motto, “Leadership, Service, Brotherhood”. Here we highlight a few of the Oprah Winfrey scholars who lead and serve in our community.
Social Justice Scholars are placed in a number of sites across the Atlanta Metropolitan area including Bear Creek Middle School, the East Lake Foundation, Southern Poverty Leadership Center (SPLC), R2ISE to Recovery, Silence the Shame, and several other sites.
Judge Winfield W. Murray ’98 was formally honored by the Atlanta City Council for his decades of service as a federal immigration judge, Morehouse educator, and staunch advocate for prison education through the Morehouse Higher Education in Prisons Program. As coach of the Morehouse debate and moot court teams, Murray has shaped generations of student-leaders in law and advocacy.
The Higher Education in Prisons Program in the Andrew Young Center [AYC-HEP] at Morehouse College and the Bard Prison Initiative [BPI] are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shari Mackinson as the Morehouse-BPI Faculty Fellow and Assistant Director of the AYC-HEP. A graduate of Howard University (BS) and Emory University in Atlanta (PhD), Dr. Mackinson presently teaches in the Department of Religion at Texas Christian University. As a graduate student at Emory, Dr. Mackinson taught at Arrendale and was a student chaplain at Metro Transitional Center. Among other responsibilities, Dr. Mackinson will serve as the site supervisor at the US Federal Correctional Institution in Atlanta.
